TGIF loves! Another week is in the books. I hope everyone had a great one! Since fall just kicked off the other week, I figured now’s as good of time as ever to share my top ten fall wardrobe essentials. These are basically pieces that I personally think everyone should have in their wardrobe this fall season. Most of these you’ll probably think (duh Kim), but with all of the trendy fashion flooding social media these days, I wanted to take it back to the basics.
I hope you enjoy!
1. A classic pair of skinny jeans (non-ripped!)
Skinny jeans are an essential for every wardrobe, no matter the season. While I LOVE (okay am obsessed) with ripped skinnies, I think it’s crucial to have a pair that are more polished (ones that you could potential wear to work on casual Fridays!)
Last fall I invested in my first pair of ‘nice’ jeans – specifically these Hudson Nico Skinnies – and of course I was hooked. This fall I splurged on these Joe’s jeans, and they’re easily just as great. For those not wanting to break the bank, I highly recommend Jcrew Factory skinnies (like these) as well as Old Navy Rockstar jeans (I own these!)
2. Leggings
Leggings are pretty much a given, but I wanted to share my FAVORITE leggings with ya’ll. These Zella ones are the best for the price (I’ve tried several in my day and wish I had discovered them sooner). They’re not too thin, and hold their shape. Trust me on this, try these out and your hunt for the perfect leggings will be over!
3. Puffer Vest
A puffer vest, whether solid or printed, pretty much screams fall in my book. They’re perfect when the weather is still a little warm, but too cold for a full on jacket. My go to – the Jcrew Factory Excursion vest. They’re pretty much classics that will last you season after season. Even better, they’re currently on sale and tend to fluctuate in price- so make sure you never pay full price 😉
4. Lightweight Jacket
In the past, I definitely disliked spending money on jackets (I know, I know, slightly ridiculous….) I think in my mind I just did NOT want it to be cold enough for one (really silly reasoning looking back…) Nonetheless, after the last few years of ‘adulting,’ I realized the long walks into work definitely required a nice jacket that could be worn daily- without freezing my butt off running into my office building!
Enter the Barbour Beadnell. Ya’ll this was probably the best investment I have ever made. It’s perfect for both work and the weekends, and goes with everything. I love how it’s thin enough to wear in the fall, but can also be layered with chunky sweaters throughout the winter. It was a big big splurge, but one I literally have no regrets about…..
Also- this quilted jacket above from Jcrew Factory is pretty great too. I picked one up three years ago, and it’s still one of my favorites!
5. Riding Boots
A great, quality pair of riding boots are my #1 shoe to invest in for fall. These will never go out of style and will last for years to come. My favorite of course are Tory Burch riding boots. I snagged both my black and brown pairs during the sale a few seasons back (I’ll be sure to give ya’ll a heads up in the next month or so when it rolls around again!) Frye also makes a great leather boot and there are tons of options on 6pm.com. For those looking for a more budget friendly options, I love this pair from Target (basically a dupe for the Frye Melissa boot at a fraction of the cost!)
Riding boots look amazing with skinny jeans, leggings, skirts, and all of your fall dresses.
6. Basic Tee
A good tee, while super basic, is a building block for your wardrobe! Layer under a cardigan or vest, or pair with a scarf and you’re good to go. A few of my favorites are this short sleeve tee (under $15), this solid long sleeve tee ($19), and this striped long sleeve tee (under $17). You also can’t go wrong with any tees from Target, most of which regularly go on sale!
7. White Sweater
Going along with the basic tee, I believe everyone should own a classic white sweater. I tend to pick one up every season (is there really such thing as too much white?) and snagged this one from Jcrew Factory the other week. I also love Old Navy and Loft for other affordable options.
8. Oversized Scarf
Ahhh oversized scarves, one of my favorite fall pieces by far! My office can get super cold, so often I’ll use my scaves as blankets in the fall / winter (don’t judge!) There are SO many great options out for these scarves, so I’ve included a few that I’m eyeing below – all of which are under $25 😉 Also, if you’re confused on how to tie this type of scarf, check out this tutorial by one of my favorite bloggers for help (it’s really not as intimidating as it looks!)
9. Cardigan
Another must have item is a fall colored cardigan. While I own my fair share of tan cardigans, there’s something about an olive, maroon, or mustard shade that screams fall! My favorite cardigan out right now is this one – I own it in two colors and am considering adding a third (whoops…)
10. Flannel
Boy do I love a good flannel shirt. Paired under a vest, wrapped around your waist with skinnies, or even worn alone- this piece is as fall as it gets. I’ve tried out many different flannels over the years, but my favorite (for the price!) hands down is Old Navy. The quality is on point, and sometimes you can score one for about $10. Right now I’m loving this one and this one.
So there you have it, my ten fall wardrobe essentials! After writing this post, I’m more ready than ever for some cooler temps to bring out all of my faves…..
What are your fall essentials? Is there anything else you’d include in this list? I’d love to hear!
